The Paddy Crean Scholarships

The Bear Scholarship

Award:
Full scholarship covering workshop fee, room and board.

Purpose:
To provide a scholarship to a deserving participant originating from anywhere in the world.

Selection Criteria:
  1. Applicant may or may not have attended the Paddy Crean before.
  2. Preference will be given to those who demonstrate financial need. This is relative to the applicant and not just to the cost to attend the workshop.
  3. Applicant must demonstrate:
    1. Interest in furthering their development through actively pursuing further education.
    2. Passion for the Art.
    3. A desire for diversity of study, leading toward deeper understanding of the applicant's discipline.
    4. Demonstration of character and code of conduct.
  4. Applicant cannot be a relative, spouse, or child of a member of the Board of Directors of the IOSP.
The Eagle Scholarship

Award:
Full scholarship covering workshop fee, room and board.

Purpose:
To provide a scholarship to a deserving participant not from North America. No prior attendance necessary but a need of financial assistance for the upcoming Paddy Crean in Banff, Canada must be demonstrated.

Selection Criteria:
  1. Applicant may or may not have attended the Paddy Crean before.
  2. Preference will be given to those who demonstrate financial need. This is relative to the applicant and not just to the cost to attend the workshop.
  3. Applicant must demonstrate:
    1. interest in furthering their development through actively pursuing further education.
    2. Passion for the Art.
    3. A desire for diversity of study, leading toward deeper understanding of the applicant's discipline.
    4. Demonstration of character and code of conduct.
  4. Applicant cannot be a relative, spouse, or child of a member of the Board of Directors of the IOSP.
The R&D Scholarship

Award:
Full scholarship covering workshop fee, room and board.

Purpose:
To provide a scholarship to a deserving participant who has an interest in furthering the research and development in Western Martial Arts in an effort to augment their Combat for Stage & Screen arts and is in need of financial assistance for the upcoming Paddy Crean in Banff, Canada

Selection Criteria:
  1. Applicant may or may not have attended the Paddy Crean before.
  2. Preference will be given to those who demonstrate a focus on bringing Western Martial Arts to life on Stage & Screen.
  3. Applicant must demonstrate:
    1. Interest in furthering their development through actively pursuing further education.
    2. Passion for the Art.
    3. Financial need. This is relative to the applicant and not just to the cost to attend the workshop.
    4. Demonstration of character and code of conduct.
  4. Applicant cannot be a relative, spouse, or child of a member of the Board of Directors of the IOSP.
The Henry Marshall Award Scholarship

There is no application process for the following as it is awarded at the event.

Award:
Full scholarship covering workshop fee, room and board.

Purpose:
To provide the Henry Marshall Award recipient a scholarship to the following Paddy Crean Workshop in Banff, Canada.

Selection Criteria:
The Henry Marshall Award is determind and presented at the Paddy Crean conference.

Application Process

All applicants must submit:

  1. Completed typed application addressing the Selection Criteria (handwritten and/or incomplete applications will not be processed). Include your name, address, email address and phone number along with an essay on why you should receive the scholarship.
  2. Two (2) letters of recommendation.
    • One (1) letter must be from your current instructor from an internationally recognized group/organization that represents the areas of study by the IOSP. (i.e Stage Combat, Fight Direction, Historical MA & or Stunt work).
    • The other letter must be a personal reference attesting to your character and code of conduct with at least two (2) examples of how you live up to this code. This letter cannot be from a relative or loved one. It should be from a person of authority and responsibility which could include, but is not limited to, a professor, dean, doctor, lawyer, or church official.

Send the completed application and letters of recommendation to jared@jaredkirby.com (Scholarship Committee head) and receipt will be confirmed within 48 hours. If you do not hear back in that time period make sure to follow up.
